The Environment Agency has called in the police to investigate how and why PRNs were issued from a book belonging to a reprocessor whose accreditation was withdrawn in November 2003.
The Agency has become aware that PRNs appear to have been issued from the book, held by Peniston Plastics of Rotherham, after the company's accreditation was revoked due to its failure to submit Quarter 3 data.
Details are currently unclear and under investigation although it appears that a substantial volume of PRNs were issued from this PRN book – potentially impacting on the plastic PRN valuations in the final quarter of 2003.
The Agency is providing all available information on the allegations to the police, who are now dealing with the issue.
