Recoup members, Loughborough University, have developed a new lightweight panelling for trucks made from recycled plastics.

The new product, called Panelplus, was developed by the University's Institute of Polymer Technology and Materials Engineering (IPTME), incorporates recycled PET, polyethylene and polypropylene, and weighs 60 per cent less than traditional plywood panels currently in use. This means that vehicles using the boards will use less fuel or be able to carry a greater payload, reducing the amount of journeys needed to transport goods and helping businesses to save money.

The new product has been developed using £500,000 funding provided by WRAP and in partnership with technology transfer company, Europrojects Ltd. It is intended that this project will help to dramatically increase the amount of waste plastics recycled in the UK over the next 5 years.
