A new recycling project in the Thames Valley is targeting post consumer PVC materials from the flooring, window, pipe and guttering markets. The pilot project has been launched by the British Plastics Federation and will contribute to the Vinyl 2010 targets.

A six-month contract has been awarded to Axion Recycling Ltd by the BPF and Vinyl 2010. The contract will see waste collections in the area between Reading and West London set up as part of an ongoing project to develop sustainable recycling options for the UK.

Most of the material will be collected from the construction sector. Initially PVC window, pipe and flooring installers, major construction sites, trade waste sites, civic amenity sites and construction waste transfers stations will b e targeted.

Phil Law, BPF Director of Public & Industrial Affairs said: “The trial will test methods of collection, sorting, separation, bulking and processing in order to provide vital basic data for future recycling initiatives.”
