Packaging waste figures published by DEFRA for Q3 2005 show that the final 2005 target is broadly achievable. The UK looks reasonably on track for the 2005 target (392kt) however the actual outcome is very dependent on whether a large volume of so far "unissued PRNs" are actually issued in Q4, 48kt of plastics PRNs may not be issued due to quality and load rejections

There is growth of exports and absolute as well as relative decline of UK reprocessing volumes continues with balance of trade in Q3 at 62% export, 38% domestic recycling.

There was some evidence of export demand slow down and price erosion in the films market, in Q4, which may impact on, confirmed final quarter figures.

Andrew Simmons Chief Executive, Recoup said “Published prices for plastic PRNs, held up well
until the end of 2005, which suggests reasonable balance between supply and demand for the
year. The target for 2006 is about 35-40kt more than last year so the pressure to continue to develop, particularly in the household wastestream remains”
