A number of bottle handlers are seeing the effects of decreased demand from export markets. Local authorities and waste management companies may also find it more difficult to secure outlets for mixed plastic bottles in the short term. Things are looking more positive for those who separate the bottles into different fractions such as clear PET, natural HDPE and coloured HDPE. There are still a number of UK and European markets that are accepting polymer sorted bottles at competitive market rates. Quality will also drive the market opportunities with better quality materials being in higher demand.
